I recently became the first African American woman to scuba dive in every ocean on Earth—a milestone born from a healing journey that began 12 years ago with a Groupon scuba lesson after divorce. What started as personal growth has evolved into a global mission rooted in exploration, advocacy, and representation.
Don’t stop. Won’t stop.
Curiosity is my drive, pushed me even further—In just 11 days, 19 hours, and 23 minutes, I set a new GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS™ title for the fastest time to SCUBA dive on all seven continents, shaving nearly a week off of the previous world record of 19 days 19 hours and 40 minutes.
With the support of my friends and family, and no formal sponsorship, I solo-traveled 27,666 miles, hauling gear across continents, diving in extreme environments, and proving that where you come from doesn’t determine how far you can go.
I grew up in a landlocked city. Now, I dive every ocean and share stories to connect others to a world they’ve never seen.
This isn’t just about breaking records—It’s about breaking barriers through ocean exploration and advocacy.
The ocean needs more voices.
I came to bring the sauce.
Citizen Scientist
Hooda proudly serves as a certified diver and coral ID specialist with Diving With a Purpose (DWP CARES). This program trains everyday people to help restore and protect coral reefs. Through hands-on reef monitoring, climate impact tracking, and ecosystem restoration, DWP empowers underrepresented communities to be part of marine science and ocean conservation.
The ocean isn’t just water — it’s memory, healing, and home.
As a Black woman, my journey into the deep is both personal and purposeful. I dive because the ocean speaks — in silence, in rhythm, in truth. I advocate because I know the power of being seen, heard, and represented in places we’ve long been missing.
This isn’t just my passion. It’s a movement for the ocean, for community, and for generations to come.
Above the Clouds
Not everyone is called to the depths; some find their freedom at the peaks. When Hooda isn’t diving beneath the surface, she’s carving through snow-capped mountains as a Black Diamond snowboarder.
For Hooda, snowboarding is more than a thrill; it’s a metaphor for life: learning to balance, embracing the unknown, falling and rising with grace. The cold air, the crisp silence, the rush of descent — it’s where clarity meets adrenaline.
Her presence on the slopes challenges stereotypes and expands representation in winter sports. Whether it’s land, sea, or sky, Black women belong everywhere.
